jet-set part 2

and the second installment...

I spent 2 nights and a day in Barcelona... not nearly enough. The miserable weather made it quite a bit less fun but I still fell in love... I could imagine what it would be like, sunny, more lively, more like I imagined it. Still an incredible experience though... Parc Guell, by Gaudi, covered in mosaics... La Rambla, stepping in puddles, speaking Spanish... La Boqueria with all sorts of amazing foods, like granadias!  The amazing hostel I stayed in.  There's even a guest appearance by Ashley and Kyra in there! I shall return, no doubt... probably when there's no more snow.

p.s. still working on compression... bare with me with.

jet-set part 1

this past weekend I hit the air on a spontaneous trip to Barcelona.  First stop, however, was London.  Miriam was going to stay with a friend of her's who was studying there so I had a place to stay for the night before heading to Spain.  It turned out to be quite the adventure, with rerouted planes, buses, taxis, and wrong addresses, but fun nonetheless!  I spent an entire 14 hours in England, from set down to take off.  It was worth it!

p.s. still working out the compression.  this file is a bit big, sorry!

Stay tuned for the rest of the adventure: Jet-Set Part Deux

 cheers.

studying

I was just messing around here, aka procrastinating a bit. After I procrastinate more by posting this, then I've got to get ready for my first quiz. Eep! Ahem... I'll be fine, I'm sure.

I've been putting my movie maker files into avi/quicktime format... on my computer they seem to be poorer quality than the earlier ones (pre-Market). If you have any input on that, please let me know!

Cheers!

P.S. London/Barcelona this weekend! Wheee!

to market

I spent the late morning at the Templebar Food Market. If you know me at all, you know how much I love farmers markets, and this was especially welcome. We saw foods that you'd never see in the Tesco supermarket; citrus, greens, olives, etc... and lots of cheese and bread. It was wonderful excursion! Cheers!

holy day

today we went on a field trip to Glendalough (pro. glen-da-lock, Irish: Gleann da lough) the site of an 10th century monastary, only and hour south of Dublin. It was so wonderful to be out of the city (I'm a country girl at heart), see some sheep, see the Ireland that I came back for, and get some fresh air. There is a church on the compound that is still standing in its original granite from the 12th century, roof and all. The round tower is perfect, stretching straight up to the sky. The grounds around the monastary are gorgeous... this footage does not do it justice.

Here's a taste... just another tourpost.

cheers.

treasure hunt

Watch the video

this was our second orientation day: getting to know Dublin City Centre, also known as An Lar in Irish. We had a scavenger hunt, throughout "downtown" looking for statues, tourist centres, coffee shoppes, etc. It was fun... our group gave up and went to lunch. Dublin is a pretty fascinating city. Lots of history, and really not as gray as you'd think. Some sites you see in the vid: Trinity College, statues of Parnell, O'Connell, Joyce, the O'Connell Bridge, the Post Office, the Quay (pronounced kee), the River Liffey. More installments coming soon.

hello from Dublin! I've had a great time in the week I've been here, all sorts of new-culture adventures. This first post is a video combining my arrival in Dublin, my room in my flat, and my first night out in Dublin's downtown, in Irish: An Lar. There are so many stories to tell, so I'll just post the video. Please comment! I think many of my posts while I'm here will be in diary-form... see what I'm up to! I hope you enjoy. Slainte! (Cheers)
